Google Place ID, explained

A Place ID is Google’s public identifier for a listing. Most of them start with ChIJ. It is how the official write-review URL knows which shop to open.

You will see Place IDs in Maps URLs, in writereview?placeid= links, and in Google’s own developer docs. Google describes them in Place IDs. They identify a place. They do not grant admin access to Google Business Profile.

Think of it as the listing’s serial number. Search can show the same shop under a few names. The Place ID is the stable handle the write-review form uses. If you paste the wrong id, the customer reviews a different place. That is why we ask you to paste a Maps URL from the listing you actually want, or the id Google’s finder shows for that pin.

It often starts with ChIJ

A typical listing Place ID looks like ChIJN1t_tDeuEmsRUsoyG83frY4. That prefix is common for Maps listings. If you can see ChIJ in a share URL, you can paste the whole URL or just that id. Other Place ID shapes exist; if it is the id Google assigned, our generator will accept a paste.

Use Google’s finder. We do not clone it.

If a short Maps link does not show the id, look it up in Google’s Place ID Finder. That is the official tool. Askforstars will not copy that map, will not wrap it, and will not scrape it. We accept a paste. That is the whole product surface for Place IDs.

Where it shows up in a Maps URL

A long Maps URL may include query_place_id=, q=place_id:, or a ChIJ… blob in the path. A write-review URL already has placeid=. Paste any of those. A short maps.app.goo.gl link often hides the id until it redirects. We follow that redirect and read the final address. If the final address still has no id, stop guessing and use the official finder.

What we do with a paste

You paste a Place ID, a write-review URL that already has placeid=, or a Maps URL that contains the id. We build https://search.google.com/local/writereview?placeid=PLACE_ID. For some short Maps hosts we follow redirects and read the final URL only. We do not scrape Google pages. We do not call Places unless you later add your own API key.

Two shops, two ids. Do not reuse one Place ID across locations. The customer should land on the listing they actually used. A franchise or a shop with a warehouse pin and a storefront pin should generate twice and label the saved shops so the text matches the job.

We will not show a map picker. We will not autocomplete business names. Those belong to Google. If you need a picker, use their finder. If you already have a share link, skip the finder and paste here.

Paste it in the Google review link generator. More methods: how to get your Google review link. No dashboard login: Google review link without login. Pricing saves the Place ID so you stop hunting it.

Questions

What does a Place ID look like?

Most listing Place IDs start with ChIJ, then a string of letters and numbers. Paste that, or a Maps URL that contains it.

Do you clone Google’s Place ID Finder?

No. If you need to look one up, use Google’s official Place ID Finder. Our generator only accepts a paste.

Do you scrape Google Maps?

No. We read a Place ID you paste, or follow a short Maps URL to the final address and read the ID from that URL.
